It?s not been long since Samsung announced their latest Galaxy Tab and it?s already gone for a tour around the FCC, albeit with just WiFi radios. There?s no LTE or voice-enabled radios in the report, which is a little disappointing to hear but realistically, the carriers themselves will more than likely offer their own versions. That doesn?t mean that Samsung won?t be launching a 3G version of the tablet soon, in fact we have no doubt that a 3G version will be passing through the FCC shortly after this one.
If you?re unfamiliar with the Galaxy Tab 3 then take a look at the specs below:
- 7-inch LCD Display at 1024 x 600
- 1.2 Ghz Dual-Core CPU
- 1GB of RAM
- 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1.3-megapixel camera round front
- 8 or 16GB of storage, with microSD support
- WiFi and 3G: HSPA?21 / 5.76 Quad 850/900/1900/2100 and 2G: EDGE/GPRS Quad 850/900/1800/1900
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 111.1 x 188.0 x 9.9mm at 302g(Wi-Fi), 306g (3G)
- 4,000 mAh Battery
Apparently, the device is launching sometime this month, which is perfect timing when you think about it. I/O is just around the corner and there?s speculation of a Nexus 7 successor being announced. While the Galaxy Tab 3 clearly doesn?t look like much of a competitor on paper, there are a few features that people will see as bonuses. For instance, there is a rear-facing camera and expandable storage. Let?s not forget that Samsung are really quite good at offering decent accessories for their own devices so, expect to see some keyboard docks and a whole range of cases.
Pricing is going to be very important here, with the Nexus 7 still retailing for $199, and it certainly looks better on paper than even this most recent Galaxy Tab. If Samsung were to offer this for somewhere in the region of $130 to $150 then they could have a successful tablet on their hands. However, Samsung have a habit of pricing their devices a little higher than we all expect.
Will you be looking to get this latest Galaxy Tab, or are you holding out for a new Nexus 7?
